Andrea
Gillis graduated from Saint Francis Xavier University with a Bachelor
of Arts, majoring in Psychology. Before establishing her ADR conflict
management training and consulting practice Andrea worked as a lawyer
in private law practice. Her law practice focused on: labour
relations, collective bargaining, employment law, Alternate Dispute
Resolution (ADR) and human resource training and policy
development, where she represented employers and employees.
Prior to her work in the practice of law Andrea worked in various
capacities for Municipal, University, and Public Safety employers. She
advised in areas of human resource management, employment, labour,
human rights, occupational safety and was Chief Negotiator in numerous
collective bargaining sessions. Andrea also taught Employment Law at
Dalhousie Law School for several years, where she continues to be
available as a guest lecturer. Andrea taught the Workplace Conflict
Resolution Program at Henson College. She has been invited to present
training sessions for the Canadian Bar Association, Nova Scotia
Barristers
Society, Lancaster House, Project Management Institute and for Unions
and other
groups. Andrea has presented numerous workshops for clients on current labour, employment and conflict management topics. Andrea sits as a
member of the Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Appeal Panel.
For several years Andrea served as an expedited arbitration panelist
and presently she serves as an arbitration panelist in labour
matters.
